Father & Son Ride. Northern West Coast Adventure.

My young padawan, Haziq had told me that in the coming semester break, he would like to repeat our ride again like what we did to the border of Pengkalan Hulu in November last year. I said, ok.

Without his knowledge, I asked a favor from my old buddy, Fadzil a.k.a. Kanji to lend me his Yamaha Y15ZR prior to the ride. So that Haziq would ride my Yamaha 135LC and I'll ride Kanji's Y15ZR. He agreed. Yes!

On the day before this ride, I took Haziq to Kanji's home to take the Y15ZR.

10:00am
We started our journey from Bertam, Penang.

'Flag-Off'

We took the North-South Highway from Bertam and exited at Sungai Petani Utara. From there we proceed through Merbok.

10:45am
We stopped somewhere at Jalan Kampung Sungai Pial and took some photos of the breathtaking view of the paddy field with Mount Jerai in the background.

Gunung Jerai at the back.

11:00am
Then we proceed to Tanjung Dawai. We did not make any stop except to take some photos at the jetty.

11:30am
From Tanjung Dawai, we rode on using the road to Yan and stopped at Pantai Murni.

12:00pm
From Pantai Murni we proceed to Pulau Bunting Bridge. The road to the bridge is not surfaced (off-road). It was quite a challenge for us to ride on the gravel.

There were lots of people fishing on the bridge. The sun is scorching hot.

Pulau Bunting

We went on the bridge until Pulau Bunting. There was no inhabitants at Pulau Bunting. I am not sure why did they build the bridge to the island. Perhaps I shall look for the answers later.

After we took some photos, we proceed on using the off-road until we found tarmac road again.

Off-road

From there, we proceed to Kuala Kedah. We did not make any stop at the Kuala Kedah Jetty to take any photo. Maybe the extreme heat made me wanted to carry on with the ride.

2:00pm
We continued the ride until Simpang Ampat, Perlis and proceed to Kuala Perlis via Kampung Sungai Baru coast line road.

There was a kite festival at Kuala Perlis.

2:30pm
My plan was to have lunch at the Nasi Daging Kuala Perlis but unfortunately, it was closed when we arrived. We are quite late, I guess.

3:15pm
We carried on our ride to Tok Mek Restaurant. This place is quite famous with lots of Malay dishes.

Daging Bakar Chiangmai has gravy, while Daging Bakar Danok is dry.

After we have had our lunch, we went on to Wang Kelian border.

4:30pm
We did not cross the border as Haziq did not have a passport and it was not in our plan.

It was sad to see the condition there. It used to be the heaven for shoppers where people can go shopping at the bazaars up to 1km on both sides of the border without passports.

It all changed in 2015 when the Malaysian Immigration Dept changed the procedure after a serious case of human trafficking was detected near that border.

Since then, ll the traders at the bazaar closed down their business due to low number of visitors. However, the bazaar on the Thai side is still operating on Saturdays and Sunday but at a small scale.

The scenery seen with naked eyes is more beautiful than this photo.

5:30pm
After we took some photos. We rode to Padang Besar. It was quite late and yet a lot of visitors at the shopping area. I bought some Siamese rice for my mom and Haziq bought some tit-bits for his mom (with my money, LOL). Small matter.

We didn't take much photos at the Padang Besar as we feel that it was too often we went there. LOL

Before we ride back home, I called Zally, my friend in Alor Setar to meet up and have dinner with him in Alor Setar. He said, ok and suggested a restaurant over there.

7:00pm
We then proceed using the route from Chuping to Changlun to North-South Highway and exited through Alor Setar Selatan.

8:20pm
We met Zally and have our dinner here at Ohh Mama Restaurant.

9:30pm
We proceed to ride using the North-South Highway. Refuel at Gurun R&R and proceed back home.

10:30pm
Safely reached home. From Penang to Perlis-Thai border and back with approximately 12 hours.

That's all for this time. As what Haziq said, "it's not how fast we go but how far we go."
As for me, the father & son moment is the precious experience that should be treasured.
If Allah permits, we shall ride farther in the future.

The total distance covered was approximately 377km (round trip).

Me & my young padawan. Sempoiiiiiii...!

Oh, not to forget, many thanx to Fadzil Kanji for lending me his Y15ZR to make this Father & Son Ride happen. Surrrr...
